RT Corporation is marketing a 2,000,000 JPY ($20,000 USD) humanoid robot called RIC (Robot In Character).  As its name suggests, the robot can be programmed with specific voices and motions to suit the character’s personality.  The Store Manager Cat is an example character designed to show the appearance of the robot in costume, which can be tailored to suit the needs of a client.  RT Corporation will also rent the robot to companies looking for a quick promotional gimmick for short term events, such as expos or grand openings.  The robot, which stands approximately 120cm (4′) tall and weighs 7.5kg (15 lbs), has a battery life of approximately 30-40 minutes and is capable of walking and getting up from a prone position thanks to its Futaba servo motors.
