Did you guys see the trailer for Vanquish, Shinji Mikami’s latest game for Xbox360 and PS3? The creator of Resident Evil and Devil May Cry has been very quiet about it until now, and I’m guessing he’s taking a little from Gears of War to return the favor of them nicking ideas from Resident Evil 4. Looks positively killer.
Wow, that’s all I can say about this week’s Wii news. Hironobu Sakaguchi (the creator of Final Fantasy) has announced a new Wii-exclusive RPG called “The Last Story” which will be released in Japan sometime this year. Then Nintendo announced a new RPG from Monolith Soft (the team behind XenoGears and XenoSaga) called XenoSword, which (from the artwork and music on the official site) has certainly piqued my interest. This is the same game that was previously shown as “Monado” which has a very “Final Fantasy 12” look going on (watch the Monado trailer here).
Finally, Nintendo announced that Tecmo’s Team Ninja intends to release the new Metroid in Japan this fall. That means it will likely be published in North America this summer, if not earlier since North America has traditionally gotten Metroid games ahead of Japan. And boy does the new Metroid look fantastic! These, along with the recently released No More Heroes 2, and the upcoming Sin & Punishment 2, Super Mario Galaxy 2 – plus Nintendo unveiling the new Zelda at E3 – and you’ve got one heck of a year for Nintendo’s console.
Hudson Soft is hard at work on their Wii-exclusive puzzle-platformer called Tower of Shadow (aka Lost in Shadow), due out sometime this year. You play the role of a boy trapped in his shadow who can only interact with the world through the shadows around him. You also control a fairy, which affects the immediate light source, so you can interactively change the shadows’ position and size. To get a feel for how this works, try out the interactive demo on the official website. The art direction seems inspired by ICO and Shadow of the Colossus, which is fine by me. Hopefully it’ll be out soon! A couple of trailers follow after the break.
And in case you missed this earlier trailer:
