Tongmyong University’s Department of Robot System Engineering (South Korea) is developing an intelligent service robot called TUBO (Tungmyong U + roBOt).  TUBO’s first major public appearance was back at Busan Robot World 2009.  The university is using it to research HRI (human-robot interaction) with plans to develop a household assistant.

TUBO has familiar capabilities: stereo cameras for face recognition; character recognition (reading); Korean speech recognition and synthesis; and SLAM.  It moves on two wheels and has two manipulators.  A few images follow after the break.
