The Brown University Robotics Group recently released drivers to run ROS on Aldebaran Robotics’ NAO, the MVP of RoboCup’s Humanoid Standard League. Now the University of Freiburg Humanoid Robotics Laboratory have created some visualization tools for the robot, which they’re using to teach NAO to walk up stairs. I think bringing ROS to the NAO is fantastic, and will lead to many interesting new capabilities for the robot. It should be interesting to see how this might affect its performance in RoboCup and if teams will be willing to share their soccer strategies. Freiburg’s communication robot Robotinho is part of Team Nimbro.
