Fukuiraptor Brought Back from Cretaceous with Robotics

The Fukuiraptor, a carnivorous dinosaur from the Lower Cretaceous unearthed in Katsuyama City, Fukui Prefecture, is part of a new museum exhibit featuring robotic dinosaurs.  The Fukui Prefectural Dinosaur Museum has 11 animatronic exhibits including a herbivorous dinosaur from the area known as Fukuisaurus.  The Fukuiraptor measures 2 meters (6’6″) tall and 4.2 meters (14′) in length.  Its head moves up and down and from side to side, and its eyes blink as if looking for its next meal.  A total of 13 actuators in its arms, legs, and tail allow the whole body to take on a variety of threatening poses. The museum is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year beginning in January, so they splurged on an extra cool exhibit.  Admission is only 1200 JPY.
