TOSY, a Vietnamese robotics firm, unveiled a new humanoid service robot called TOPIO Dio at Automatica 2010, an automation trade show, which wrapped up in Germany last week.  TOPIO Dio is 125cm (4′) tall and weighs 45kg (99 lbs), with a total of 28 degrees of freedom.  It is controlled over a wireless internet connection via its on board camera, avoiding obstacles with a sensor as it moves around on its three wheels.  The robot is said to be able to serve drinks or food at restaurants and bars.  Besides TOPIO Dio, the table-tennis playing TOPIO 3.0 was also on hand, and TOSY showed a number of industrial manufacturing robots, which are only one quarter the price of competing products.

TOSY‘s General Director, has previously stated that the company intends to bring its robots to an international market in the future.  A few more photos follow after the break.
