ASIMO’s 10th Birthday to Include Retrospective Film

Honda’s humanoid robot ASIMO is turning 10 this October 31st, and the automaker is planning to celebrate in style. “Hey,” you might say. “Honda has been developing robots since 1986, so isn’t this really the 24th anniversary?” Well Honda has a special 10th anniversary website where they will launch a retrospective film about the history of their robotic development on October 29th, so sit tight.

A special week runs from October 30th to November 3rd at the Honda Welcome Plaza, where there will be a special ASIMO demonstration and presentations with the designers. I doubt we’ll see a new design for ASIMO, because the current version is already great, and besides the engineers have been busy with related projects like the Honda U3X and the Walk Assist Devices.

You’ll be able to download a “Run with ASIMO” app for your phone that tracks your activity in conjunction with a pedometer. They’re also planning on putting together a huge mosaic of “What is ASIMO” using photographs and illustrations submitted by the public. You can submit your own photos or illustrations via the (Japanese) form on the website.
