I suppose it was bound to happen eventually, but I wasn’t expecting to see it happen quite so soon. Taylor Veltrop is a software engineer who has managed to link up his Kondo KHR-1HV hobby humanoid robot to the Kinect, allowing him to teleoperate its arms. Looking at his website, it’s clear he has been working on some pretty sophisticated customizations for his “Veltrobot”, including implementing ROS. Rather than using the Kondo controller board he has opted to use a Roboard, which is essentially a small computer, and he has given it stereo cameras for vision (among other sensors). Next, he says he’d like to control the robot’s grippers with his own hands.
