ED Corporation’s “Cinema Companion” service robot has started selling movie tickets in theater lobbies as part of a new pilot program. The company’s first stab at the idea, CIROMI, didn’t have a card slot and couldn’t print tickets but the new robot is fully equipped to complete customer transactions. Unfortunately the robot’s personality is limited to its garish design, and it looks like using one would be no different than a standard kiosk. The robot does have one extra perk thanks to its mobility and built-in camera; it can autonomously patrol the cinema after hours to expand security and send live video feed to the guard station.
