Gyms spend more money on advertising in the month of January than all other months combined, hoping to reel in the millions that made New Year’s resolutions to lose weight. Inevitably, most people find they don’t have the time or energy to actually see these life-changing commitments through. That’s where humanoid robots can make a difference. Sure, they cost way more than a personal trainer and their motors might wear out from over use (not to mention your electricity bill is sure to skyrocket) but they can lead by example every day. Not convinced? Check out the darling of the cognitive robotics world, the iCub, pumping some serious iron in the following video:
I know what you’re thinking; “modified” push ups are for human weaklings! Well you best laugh while you still can, because it won’t be long before they’re crushing human records (in 2007 a man did 1,940 in an hour, which works out to something like 32 a minute).
