The Canadian Museum of Civilization located in Gatineau, Quebec is hosting an exhibit called Japan: Tradition. Innovation. that contrasts items from the past with those of the present. Honda’s ASIMO appeared on the opening day, but sadly won’t be part of the collection. The robots on display include Flower Robotics’ posing mannequin Palette, Mitsubishi’s household service robot Wakamaru, AIST’s therapeutic seal Paro, and SONY’s robotic dog AIBO. Unfortunately, it appears the robots are behind glass and won’t be interacting with visitors (which Wakamaru has done in other displays). However, you’ll also be treated to an assortment of beautiful artifacts including wind-up automata, tin toys, origami, a suit of samurai armor, vintage automobiles, and anime & manga artwork.
The exhibit is sponsored by Subaru Canada and was organized with the cooperation of the National Museum of Japanese History in Sakura, Japan. It runs from May 20th ~ October 1oth 2011, so if you’re in the area definitely check it out.
