Video: HUBO 2 Throws First Pitch at Cubs-Phillies Game

On April 28th 2012, Dan Lofaro of Drexel University rolled out one of his HUBO 2 robots to throw the first pitch prior to the Cubs-Phillies game in Philadelphia.  The announcer gets things partially right: HUBO 2 is actually the product of a partnership between Drexel University’s Autonomous Systems Lab and the Hubo Lab at the Korean Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST).

Although they gave it a good shot, it doesn’t appear that HUBO 2 will be joining the big leagues any time soon.  HUBO 2 is not the first humanoid robot to do this: back in July 2005 when SONY’s QRIO was its corporate ambassador, the little robo-tike did the same for the Washington Nationals and the New York Mets at Washington’s RFK stadium (see photo).
